Abstract/Summary:
In this dissertation I demonstrate the effect of electron-electron correlations on the properties of low-dimensional systems. I have taken examples from many different areas of Condensed Matter Physics and Optics: Quantum Hall Effect system at half filling, (n, n) carbon nanotubes, stripe-ordered High-TC material and C60 molecule in the neighborhood of a metallic surface.; I demonstrate that description based on free electrons or renormalized quasi particles model breaks down for all of the systems described above and electron-electron interaction leads to qualitatively new results.
