The objective of this Ph.D. project is to develop a finite difference adiabatic global nonhydrostatic semi-implicit semi-Lagrangian (SISL) model based on the fully compressible nonhydrostatic atmospheric equations. In the first phase of this work, a global nonhydrostatic SISL model without orography has been developed in z coordinate. Starting from the initialized ECMWF analysis of 0000 UTC 15 January 1979, a series of 5-day test runs have been performed. The model is stable and preserves the characteristics of the solution at large time steps of up to one hour at horizontal resolution of 2.8125... |
