We investigated the axisymmetric metallic disc dynamo, noting that Cowling's theorem (which forbids stationary axisymmetric dynamos) does not apply to objects with macroscopically sharp boundaries. We solved the hydromagnetic dynamo equations, i.e., the complete set of magneto hydro dynamical equations, by using the Galerkin method to transform the original system of nonlinear partial differential equations into an infinite-dimensional system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. For a certain range of the parameters for which the truncated 3-D sub-flow is stable, we found chaos and a strange attractor of fractal dimension...
