Abstract/Summary:
A molecular receptor was designed and synthesized. The key feature of the receptor is the rigid, cofacial positioning of two planar metal complexes separated by approximately 7 Å. This separation allows the receptor to interact with planar aromatic molecules and square planar metal complexes. This complex was employed in a series of molecular recognition and self-assembly studies. These association complexes were examined in both solution and the solid state.
