Abstract/Summary:
The stereochemical courses of the hydronium ion-catalyzed, hydroxide ion-catalyzed and spontaneous hydrolysis of (R)-styrene oxide and (R)-4-methyl styrene oxide have been determined by ;The hydrolysis reactions of benzo(a) pyrene 7,8-diol 9,10-epoxides, 1 and 2 are examined. The hydrolysis of 2 occurs by hydronium ion-catalyzed, pH-independent and hydroxide ion-catalyzed pathways. The hydrolysis of 1 also occurs by hydronium ion-catalyzed and pH-independent routes, but there is no detectable bimolecular reaction between hydroxide ion and 1 at...
