Abstract/Summary: | |
The TAP-2 multifunctional reactor system is a catalyst evaluation and characterization system that can perform transient response and steady-flow experiments at pressures ranging from 10{dollar}sp{lcub}-5{rcub}{dollar} to 10{dollar}sp5{dollar} Pa, and temperatures ranging 300 K to 900 K. A series of new studies of CO oxidation and the CO/NO reaction over polycrystalline rhodium powder are conducted using the TAP-2 system. Experiments are performed at vacuum and atmospheric pressures under steady-state and transient reaction conditions. Quantitative mathematical models for the nonlinear transport-kinetics interactions are developed and applied to the reactions determining kinetic parameters of CO oxidation at various surface coverages and the CO/NO reaction under vacuum conditions. The kinetic parameters obtained from vacuum conditions are applied to simulate the steady-state reactions at atmospheric pressures. |
