Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation presents a methodology for evaluating the safety benefits of in-vehicle driver warning systems. This research describes the combination of advanced vehicle surveillance techniques, microscopic simulation, and fault-tree modeling in order to quantify the potential safety impacts of different deployment levels of in-vehicle driver warning systems. A case study in which the proposed methodology is applied to a work zone is presented and discussed. Final remarks, findings and recommendations for future research conclude this work.
