Abstract/Summary:
The focus of this dissertation is on development of BEM for transient coupled problems. New formulations for transient potential flow (heat conduction), uncoupled thermoelasticity and coupled soil consolidation (poroelasticity) problems are derived. These formulations, which are based on particular integral theory, eliminate the need for volume integrals.; For the particular integral formulations the equations of the steady-state heat conduction, thermoelasticity and poroelasticity are used as the complementary solution and two set of global shape functions are considered to approximate the transient terms of equations of the heat conduction, uncoupled thermoelasticity and coupled soil consolidation.; In order to test the accuracy of the present formulations results obtained for a number of example problems are compared with the available analytical solutions.
