Abstract/Summary:
The rate dependent behavior of AS4/PEEK thermoplastic composite was characterized over a wide strain range {dollar}rm (10times 10sp{lcub}-1{rcub} secsp{lcub}-1{rcub}{dollar} to 1,000 sec{dollar}sp{lcub}-1{rcub}).{dollar} The low to moderate experiments were conducted with a servohydraulic testing machine, while the high strain rate experiments were conducted with a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar. Two rate dependent models are introduced to model the material response. A rate dependent model based on a one-parameter plasticity model and a modified Johnson rate dependent model. Both models are shown to adequately model the experimental results over the complete strain range.
