Abstract/Summary:
The response of a submerged infinite thick-section composite cylinder subjected to a plane blast pressure wave is analyzed using finite elements, effective modulus theory an approximate fluid-structure coupling method. The accuracy of the effective modulus theory in dynamic stress and delamination cracks is investigated. From the analysis, predictions of material failure and delamination crack formation and extension can be made. The dominant mode of delamination crack extension for the thick-section composite cylinder was determined.
