Abstract/Summary:
The dissertation describes the application of two different robust control design methodologies for the operation of an electro-hydraulic three-degree-of-freedom automobile seat motion simulator. The robust control designs were utilized to ensure fidelity of tracking over a bandwidth of 30 Hz in spite of extreme variations of payload weight and model uncertainty.;The dissertation provides the first evidence of an application of the H;The research indicates that the robust control design methods studied do improve the amplitude tracking in the face of plant uncertainty and large payload variations. The methods do not provide a means of improving phase fidelity. A recommendation was made to explore the development of robust control design that might improve phase tracking.
