Abstract/Summary:
Controlled Release fertilizers have been developed to meet the needs of managers and owners of privately-owned sport fish ponds throughout the southeastern United States. Pond studies at the Auburn University Fisheries Research Unit (FRU) and small privately-owned ponds in Lee, Randolph, Russell and Tallapoosa Counties were conducted from March to October in 1995 and 1996. A temperature effect study was conducted that showed that the fertilizer released nutrients to the water at a consistent rate in a controlled environment. The results demonstrated that controlled release fertilizers have some potential as a sport fish pond fertilizer; however, research should continue to focus on release rates, coating levels and application methods.
