Abstract/Summary:
This study is a quantitative exploration of competencies for leadership in a nonprofit organization, Junior Achievement. The dependent variables were the eight competencies currently considered by Junior Achievement as well as a ninth competency, Emotional Intelligence, added to the model by the researcher. The core of Emotional Intelligence is: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and social skills. The independent variables were: (a) title (b) age (c) ethnicity (d) gender. The quantitative data for the study was gathered via a 36-question survey from 540 Junior Achievement participants. Chi Square, frequency, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and Scheffe were used to contrast the dependent and independent variables. The findings provided insight into the employees' leadership competency preferences in a nonprofit environment. These findings should be considered exploratory, not definitive.
