Abstract/Summary:
This final document addresses the need for bridge-building relationships in a culturally diverse context between African-Americans and Caribbean/West Indians. Six Biblical sermons: (1) God Alone Is Humanity's Final Judge, (2) God Can Determine Our Children's Future, (3) Reconciliation: Moving Towards A More Genuine Community, (4) Unity In Christ, (5) Freedom To Serve One Another (Part I), and (6) Freedom To Serve One Another (Part II) by the author served as the central focus of the project. These sermons were preached to empower a group of adults to model leadership and to embrace cultural diversity as God-ordained responsibility. It is the writer's conviction that Biblical preaching is the power of God unto salvation ... to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek say Apostle Paul.; Scriptures proclaimed through teaching Bible study sessions were utilized to address issues underlying cultural diversity. The group concentrated on six books of the Bible: Genesis, Jonah, Ruth, Acts, Philemon, and Galatians. The Bible study Sessions were designed to engage the participants minds and challenge their conviction about God's revelations and to accept the beauty of cultural diversity and celebrate it. They also served as a form for group dialogue with respect to their agreeing and disagreeing on issues that could have been more explosive later on in the process.; The workshops were used as supplementary material for exposing the group to cultural enrichment. The four workshops: (1) Cultural Diversity, (2) The Historical Role of The African-American Family With Implication for Cultural Diversity, (3) The Historical Role of the Caribbean/West Indian Family With Implications For Cultural Diversity, and (4) The Role of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and His Impact Upon Cultural Diversity. Enlightenment of cultural diverse group can have a creative and meaningful future. Results of the model were evaluated by a post-test and a pre-test qualitative analytical instrument to show some behavioral modification and reconciliation between African-Americans and Caribbean/West Indians who embraced cultural diversity.
