The purpose of this study was to examine the fund-raising practices of evangelical parachurch organizations in view of the scriptural teachings on money and possessions. The study was built around four specific domains: (1) a secular model of fund-raising, (2) biblical instructions on money and possessions, (3) stewardship, and (4) an integrated model of fund-raising. The study included an historical overview of philanthropy in both Europe and America, with particular attention given to the evolution of scientific philanthropy and its impact on religious fund-raising.; Research was collected using the Confidential Financing Survey (Fahs, 1996) and was distributed to 865 parachurch organizations that hold membership with the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. The survey instrument was sent directly to the CEOs of the member organizations with 521 (60%) responding. |
