Abstract/Summary:
Adolescent substance abuse is a growing problem in the United States. However, few resources exist that promote the parents' influence in the prevention of adolescent substance abuse. This community-based workshop was designed to provide parents with information about development, risk, and protective factors for substance abuse and skills to help prevent their adolescents from using substances. Twenty-three program evaluators and 1 expert on adolescent substance abuse reviewed the workshop and used the evaluation to provide feedback about the workshop. Future direction includes cultural adaptation to the workshop that will allow it to be implemented with diverse community populations.
