Abstract/Summary:
This generic qualitative inquiry examined the experience of nontraditional females enrolled in a community college. The study was conducted to answer the research question: How do female nontraditional students describe their experiences of attending a community college? Data were collected through open-ended, structured interviews with fifteen nontraditional females enrolled in a community college. The interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The primary themes that emerged were financial concerns, family obligations, instructor, personal factors and experiences on campus. Following the data analysis a discussion of the findings and recommendations for further research were presented. The findings would be of interest to institutions of higher education, especially those that serve large numbers of nontraditional female students.
