Abstract/Summary:
This study described the variety of ways Missouri public schools used satellite-based systems during the 1995-1996 school year. Satellite-based systems' existence in Missouri public schools has occurred over the last 10 years. The state-funded Video Instructional Development and Educational Opportunity (VIDEO) grant program has enabled hundreds of public schools to obtain satellite-based systems and other video equipment. The data collected about these schools' satellite activities indicate the nature of classroom uses of satellite-based systems, as well as nonclassroom uses.;Information was collected using a questionnaire of my original design. The questionnaire was administered to 300 randomly selected satellite instruction coordinators and 300 satellite-using classroom teachers in Missouri whose schools received their satellite-based systems through the VIDEO grant program. In addition, on-site visits were conducted at 10 randomly selected schools.;The data collected were analyzed to determine the nature and frequency of classroom use of the satellite-based systems. Recommendations are made concerning the uses of satellite-based systems in Missouri public schools.
