| A new stress function method, which we call the Force Stream Function Method is presented. A general relationship between the force stream function and the classic fluid stream function is developed. Problems whose solutions are known in solid mechanics, such as simple tension, torsion, a flat plate with a circular hole, and Griffith's crack problem are used to validate the Force Stream Function Method. Two examples are highlighted using Mathematica software, symbolically and numerically. The relationship between the Force Stream Function and the Airy stress function is also presented. |
