The purpose of this study was to investigate if adverse action, when taken against an individual employee, had a significant negative impact on individual and team job satisfaction. This study also investigated the impact of cognitive dissonance, when caused by adverse action, on job satisfaction. Using the Job Satisfaction Survey and a brief demographic survey instrument, this study collected job satisfaction data from employees of a New Hampshire town. The research did not show a significant relationship between adverse action and job satisfaction in the population used for this study; however, there was a significant relationship between cognitive dissonance and job satisfaction.
