Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this paper is to document and explain the state by state variation in commercial lending during the Great Recession. The major focus is on lending to small businesses. An econometric study was employed to explain lending variations for the fifty states. The findings are that economic conditions, borrower characteristics and lender characteristics all impact lending variability statistically to varying degrees.
