Abstract/Summary:
The research addresses the requirement for the construction industry to alter its focus from a traditional project management emphasis to a new emphasis on enterprise management. By underestimating the importance of organizational management issues and the developmental needs of its business executives, construction companies are being precluded from achieving their full profit potential.; Three hypotheses are established and confirmed as key problem areas: (1) the construction industry is not addressing the full range of topics that are important to today's changing business environment; (2) there is a continuous lag between the identification of executive management issues by management professionals and the identification of these same issues by the construction industry; and (3) the construction industry is limiting students' and professionals' education opportunities with project management knowledge, despite the fact that construction industry professionals are benefiting from, and often requiring, executive management knowledge early in their careers.
