Abstract/Summary:
Scope and method of study. In this study, a model of employee extra-role behaviors was specified. A set of variables including employee perceptions of organizational fairness and support were specified as explanatory variables. The empirical validity of the model was assessed by carrying out a field survey.; Findings and conclusions. The results of this study indicated partial support for the proposed model of employee extra-role behaviors. The antecedent variable set in the model accounted for statistically significant variance in the organizational involvement variable. The explanatory variable sets in the model accounted for statistically significant variance in only three of the four extra-role behaviors included in the model. The findings suggest that it may be possible to explain the occurrence of employee extra-role behaviors in an integrated model. This, however, will require considerable refinement in and extension of the model proposed in the study.
