Abstract/Summary:
A lithostratigraphic framework was established via a detailed 19.5 km measured section in Santa Rosa Canyon perpendicular to regional trends of the Eastern Front of the Sierra Madre Oriental. Physical field descriptions and field profiles were made. Hand samples were systematically collected and thin-sectioned for biochronology and microfacies analysis. Biochronologic information was obtained through the identification of planktonic foraminifera and calpionellids in thin-section. A microfacies analysis was achieved, observing and recording textural features and constituents in each thin section, to arrive at a paleogeographic interpretation involving three different sub-basins. Two different stratigraphic successions were observed in the measured section based on different lithostratigraphies and changes in microfacies recording independent origins. The lithostratigraphic successions are separated by a left-lateral transcurrent fault.;The 958 km...
