In this work the effects of relaxing certain common idealizations upon the properties of solutions in general relativity are examined. In particular, we examine the properties of spherically symmetric solutions in comparison to the properties of axiallysymmetric solutions, both in vacuo and in the presence of matter. Additionally, we abandon the perfect fluid assumption for spherically symmetric interior solutions and compare properties with perfect fluid cases.
