Abstract/Summary:
Complexes of the form ((2,2;Each complex gives rise to a redox series. A number of species generated by electron and/or proton transfer reactions were examined by electronic, vibrational, resonance Raman, NMR, ESR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The proton coupled oxidation of the o-phenylenediamine complex was examined.;A molecular orbital model was developed based on the spectroscopic data and ab initio calculations of the free ligands. The model describes the existence of an aromatic metallocycle, RuLL, that accounts for behavior of the quinonoid complexes.
