Abstract/Summary:
The manganese equilibrium for several slag-metal systems, for which no previous information was available, has been measured. The manganese equilibrium was evaluated by determining several parameters such as the manganese partition ratio (L;The effect of basicity on the kinetics of manganese smelting has been investigated. The effect of FeO and MnO in the slag on the rate of reduction of MnO from MgO;A set of equations has been proposed within the context of this work to describe the transfer of MnO and FeO in the slag and of manganese and oxygen in the metal. A computer program was developed using the rate equations proposed. The rate is controlled primarily by the transfer of manganese and oxygen in the metal. The results indicate that additions of manganese ore can be made at any slag basicity level without retarding the process of manganese reduction from the slag.;At a given basicity, the value of L...
