A series of mononuclear, ((bpy);Four mixed-valence binuclear ruthenium complexes have been generated by one electron oxidation of the reduced binuclear thioether compounds. All four of these complexes exhibit intervalence transition (IT) bands whose energies in nitrobenzene range from 8.87 to 10.40 kK. The distance-dependence of the IT band energies and intensities indicates that the former decrease linearly with the distance whereas the latter decrease exponentially. The theoretical treatment of Hush for mixed-valence class II compounds was used in the analysis of the IT bands. Rapid thermal electron transfer (k... |
