Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, several kinds of polymer concrete have been actively developed and widely used in the construction industry in Japan. Polymethyl methacrylate concrete has become of major interest lately because of its good workability, low-temperature curability and high early strength development. However the systematic studies on the polymethyl methacrylate concrete which form the standpoint of building engineering have hardly been reported so far. The purpose of this study is to grasp systematically the basic properties of the polymethyl methacrylate concrete and also to establish the basis of their mix proportioning.; Experimental studies on the properties and mix proportioning of the polymethyl methacrylate concrete were carried out using the following guidelines: consistency, initial properties, setting shrinkage and its reduction, strength characteristics, durability, mix proportioning, performance evaluation compared with commercially available acrylic concrete and use of reclaimed methyl methacrylate.; The conclusion reached was that the properties of polymethyl methacrylate concrete have been clarified systematically and the method of mix proportioning for their applications has been established.
