Abstract/Summary:
The electron-positron momentum density has been measured by the two dimensional angular correlation of annihilation radiation (2D ACAR) technique for single crystal and polycrystalline (sintered powder) YBa;Large differences were observed between the room temperature 2D ACAR spectra for superconducting and nonsuperconducting sintered powder samples, and smaller differences were observed between the spectra for similarly prepared superconducting samples. For sintered superconducting samples, complex sample dependent temperature variations of the momentum density were observed, in contrast to the small linear temperature variation observed for a sintered powder nonsuperconducting sample. These results are interpreted as manifestations of the theoretically predicted preferential sampling of the linear Cu-O chain region by the positron in the YBa...
