Abstract/Summary:
Cotton and rice are often planted in rotation with other crops in Arkansas. Of concern is the potential for carryover of herbicides from one crop to rotational crops planted the following season. Studies were conducted to (1) evaluate the persistence of imazaquin and imazethapyr following use on soybeans and the response of cotton to soil residues of these herbicides, (2) to determine the effect of soybeans on the persistence of imazaquin in soil and effects on cotton, and (3) determine the persistence of several herbicides in soil and their effects on rice. Imazaquin injured cotton planted the year following use on soybeans on two clay soils but not on a silt loam soil. The cotton compensated for injury and yields were reduced only by residues of imazaquin applied at 0.14 kg ha...
