Abstract/Summary:
In the first study, we determined that testosterone injected into fish in a recirculating water system can elevate testosterone levels in fish located in the same recirculating water system but not injected with testosterone. The testosterone did not cause an increase in testis size.;In the second study, the objective was to determine whether injections of partially purified salmon gonadotropin (sG-G100) would result in demonstrable changes in testicular growth and changes in plasma testosterone and 11-keto testosterone in immature rainbow trout. The sG-G100 injections caused an increase in the gonad-somatic-index (GSI = testes wt/body wt ;In the third study, we determined the relationship of steroids, germ cell distribution, and the presence of protamine mRNA in the induction of spermatogenesis by injecting prepubertal rainbow trout for 21 weeks with partially purified salmon gonadotropin. Plasma testosterone, 11-keto testosterone, and 17...
