| In the acute care settings, there is an increasing focus on the prevention of adverse advents in an effort to improve patient safety, reduce medical errors, meet regulatory requirements and improve quality. This is stimulated in part by the new state and federal initiatives that impact mandatory reporting and reimbursement for these conditions that have in recent years been defined as avoidable or "never events.".;To achieve this goal, nursing needs to look at nursing-sensitive value based purchasing (NSVBP) as a mechanism to financially incentivize nursing. The NSVPB should be tied to pay-for-performance for nurses to help with the collaboration of meeting the outcome goals.;This project will develop and propose a pay-for-performance bonus structure that would be utilized to improve nursing quality indicators, such as hospital acquired pressure ulcers and catheter associated urinary tract infections. At the duration of the project the bonus structure for the pay-for-performance program will be presented to the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Nursing Officer and the Nursing Financial Director. |
