Father absence, effect and treatment: A practical and critical literature review for practitioners

Abstract/Summary:
The problem. A practical and critical literature review is presented for practitioners. The purpose of this report is to study the effects of father absence on children, and to respond to the concern and suggested types of treatments.;Method. A chronological sampling of the literature on father absence was presented under the following areas of study: personality development, cognitive development, delinquency, self-esteem, sex role development, and therapy.;Results. The effects of father absence critically are reviewed in the literature as showing overwhelmingly the deleterious effects of father absence on children. Most of the literature pertains directly to father absence, and is beneficial to practitioners.;The strengths and weaknesses of the literature were discussed. The stimulation and contemporary area of the literature, which requires further research, was discussed so as to provide useful suggestions for research.;Finally, a biogentic literature omission was discussed with encouragement for further research and study.
