Abstract/Summary:
This study's purpose was to compare some Rorschach Ink Blot scores of 20 Northern New Mexico Hispanic normals and 30 Northern New Mexico Hispanic pedophiles with each other, and then compare these two samples with Exner's normative samples of nonpatient normals and character disorders. Three personality variables were used: (1) the Egocentricity Index; (2) the capacity for control and stress tolerance, the D-score; and (3) the extended reality score, the X+% score.;No significant difference in the Egocentricity Index scores between the Hispanic normals, Hispanic pedophiles, and Exner's normative samples of nonpatient normals and character disorders were found.;There were significant differences, however, in the D-score--the capacity for control and stress tolerance--between Hispanic normals and Hispanic pedophiles, with the former group having significantly greater negative stress tolerance than the latter. These two samples also differed significantly from either Exner's nonpatient normals or his character disorders group.;There was no significant difference found in the extended reality (X+%) scores between Hispanic normals and Hispanic pedophiles. However, both these sample groups differed significantly from Exner's normative samples of nonpatient normals and character disorders.;The data appeared to support the notion that both sample groups of Hispanics, the normals and the pedophiles, were quite stress-affected. The suggestion is made that the source of the stress could be due to acculturation stressors. These findings were discussed in light of other studies and recommendations for further research were made.
