A list of addresses is appended.;The section "Didaktik" describes the didactic basis for a proposed exemplary teaching unit as well as the advantages of using culture-authentic material in the classroom.;Courses integrating culture-authentic material, i.e. German newspapers, video recordings of German TV shows or radio recordings, and promoting linguistic and functional German skills have been a major focus for German Departments in recent years. Despite the growing need for such courses and increased availability of materials, German departments have found it difficult to find up-to-date background information, i.e. data which draw attention to the difference between the cultural reality reflected by authentic material and the current German reality or publications which comply with the recent radical changes in the West German media. This project, designed as a manual for the instructor of "German Mass Media" and geared toward direct classroom application, attempts to fill this gap. Furthermore, this project offers pedagogical guidelines for instructors in order to integrate the material in an academically and methodologically sound curriculum.;In the more extensive main section the German press, radio and TV are covered; these topical areas are broken down into teaching units (chapters). For the instructor's preparation, each chapter includes topical background information. Reading and illustrative texts, audio-visual aids, statistical tables are included for classroom use followed by suggestions for exercises, assignments and student evaluation as well as a bibliography. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Material, German, Background information, Project, List, Culture-authentic | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
