Analisis estructuralista de tres cuentos miticos de Gabriel Garcia Marquez. [Spanish text]

This dissertation is concerned with the analysis of the mythical structure of three short stories by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: "A very Old Man with Enormous Wings," "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World" and "The Sea of Lost Time." The analysis is achieved by using structural methodologies developed by social anthropologists. The basic models used correspond to Claude Levi-Strauss, Joseph W. Bastien, Victor Turner and Robert Pelton.;The first chapter deals with myth definitions, in order to establish a background for the analysis of mythical literature. A survey is made of Levi-Strauss' concept regarding myth, but the emphasis is on defining the mythical novel and mythical modern short story.;The intention in the second chapter is to identify Garcia Marquez as a mythical writer. It contains a review of the commentaries made by critics concerning myth in his novels and short stories, with particular emphasis on One Hundred Years of Solitude. The chapter also views some comments by the author.;Chapters three, four and five cover the analysis of the selected short stories. In chapter three the stories are viewed through lineal structure from a non reversible chronological perspective. Chapter four projects the analysis beyond non reversible time, into the underlying structure in circular reversible time. Chapter five contains the structural analysis of the stories using the structural model. The narrative is viewed first as individual narrations and then as different versions of a basic theme.;In brief, the study examines the short stories of Garcia Marquez through the three-level analysis seen in the structural model of Levi-Strauss: parole in chapter three; langue in chapter four, and the message or supralinguistic code in chapter five.
