In the heat of the global Cold War, Kwame Nkrumah ascended the political throne of Ghana after attaining higher academic laurels in the United States, and a two-year domicile in the United Kingdom. Having studied much about politics in the United States and the United Kingdom, he took that experience to the Gold Coast and helped the country achieve political independence. Once that independence was achieved, he went ahead to try to modernize and develop Ghana as a model for other African countries to follow suit. He used both sides of the Cold War ideological dichotomy to his advantage and was successful at it. This paper therefore explores Nkrumah's background and how he used that influence in his political activities in Ghana.
