Abstract/Summary:
The first half of this dissertation is a summary and commentary by myself on the above work written by Kongtrul. The second half of this dissertation consists of the translation of Kongtrul's root verses and auto-commentary. His work is a detailed explanation of teacher-student relationship that includes its importance, a precise description of what characterizes a qualified teacher and student in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, how to overcome obstacles, and what each should do in order to prepare for the teachings. The appendix includes annotations, an extensive English-Tibetan glossary, and Kongtrul's root verses and auto-commentary in the Tibetan characters.
