Abstract/Summary:
This study investigates the possibility that a computer enhanced with interactive multimedia could improve students' learning by offering information geared to multiple learning styles. Computer multimedia tutorials have infinite patience and possess the ability to allow students to learn in a supportive visual, kinesthetic and auditory environment. They can provide classroom assistance to instructors as multimedia tutorials demonstrate abstract techniques or theories that have been difficult to convey.;Research has indicated that computers, especially multimedia computers, have the potential to enhance learning by creating a more realistic and appealing presentation of virtually any subject matter. Although the benefits of such a tool have been documented, it appears that this resource has been under utilized. The researcher designed a friendly, easy-to-use prototype or example of a multimedia interactive tutorial for a non-technological curriculum to demonstrate the capabilities and potential of this new educational media so that educators will be encouraged to take full advantage of today's technology and prepare students to understand and participate in the ever-changing technological world.;The case study research methodology was utilized. The amount of control and the researcher's desire to fully determine the efficiency of JEMM (Journalism in Education Multimedia Model) were the determining factors in selecting this methodology. It is also particularistic, as it focuses on a particular program. It is descriptive in that it parades a rich description of the tutorial. Additionally, the study is heuristic in that it illuminates a deeper understanding of how interactive tutorial education functions. It is inductive in that concepts and generalizations emerge that may help establish multimedia as a future leader of all forms of education and training.;The researcher, using the JEMM tutorial, found that this interactive multimedia presentation of information is an effective learning tool and more efficient than traditional methods of teaching the same content area.
