Abstract/Summary:
This follow-up study evaluated the effectiveness of two different baccalaureate degree business programs in preparing associate degree transfer students for their selected careers and occupations. Student academic transcripts were analyzed and a survey instrument was sent to all program graduates. The graduate population for the Business Administration program was 35 and the response rate was 77.1 percent. The population for the Business Services program was 233 and the response rate was 71 percent.;The major dependent variables measured in the study were employment patterns, salaries, job satisfaction, and program satisfaction. Secondary variables were degree completion requirements, and levels of participation in continuing education activities. Frequency distributions and percentage comparisons were the primary methods of analysis.;Business Administration graduates had a higher rate of full-time employment for their first jobs after graduation, while Business Services had a higher rate for their current jobs. The Business Administration program had a larger percentage of graduates employed in jobs related to their baccalaureate degrees for both jobs. There was no difference between the program graduates in the amount of unemployment since graduation. A larger percentage of Business Administration graduates received job promotions. Business Services graduates were more frequently employed within the local area. Business Administration graduates had a higher rate of employment in "professional, technical, or managerial occupations," and were more frequently employed in private enterprise. Business Services graduates had higher rates of employment in "clerical or sales occupations.".;There was a higher frequency of Business Services graduates in the top salary category of $28,000 or above for the graduates' first jobs after graduation. Business Administration graduates had a higher frequency for their current jobs. There was very little difference in the overall levels of job satisfaction between graduates for their first jobs after graduation. Business Administration graduates had a higher level of job satisfaction for their current jobs. Business Administration graduates required more academic quarters to complete the baccalaureate degree after transferring, and needed more credit hours to graduate.
