A study of the design, data collection, dissemination and maintenance of a source command, control and communications interoperability (C3I) database directory for the Department of Defense (DOD)-researcher/planner | | Posted on:1989-11-06 | Degree:Ed.D | Type:Dissertation | | University:Temple University | Candidate:Curcio, Frank D | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:1478390017955744 | Subject:Information Science | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | This short abstract presents a summary of the major objectives and findings of the study.; The study identified and gathered available data concerning C3I related databases and designed and developed a C3I Database Directory for DOD researcher/planner. Dissemination and maintenance of the C3I Database Directory was also addressed in the study.; The design, data collection, dissemination and maintenance of a Source Command, Control and Communications Interoperability (C3I) Database Directory for the Department of Defense (DOD) researcher/planner is paramount to achieving a C3I architecture. A need exists within the Joint tactical C3 area for the building of a composite C3I architecture and supporting databases.; The data collected were delimitated to C3I related database information and information provided by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). The study was a qualitative/descriptive type study. The study gathered data effective 1985 through 1986. The survey questionnaire utilized was designed by the author.; Research questions. Specific research questions investigated by the study include: (1) What contents and structure should be in a Source C3I Database Directory? (2) What C3I related databases exist? (a) How is each database described? (b) What kind of C3I related information does each database provide? (c) Who is the point of contact for each database? (d) What is the point of contact's phone number? (e) Where are the databases maintained? (3) How can this Directory be made available to the DOD researcher/planner? (4) How can this Directory be maintained and updated?; Conclusions. Based on the findings presented in the study, the following conclusions were developed: (1) A Source C3I Database Directory was designed and developed based on guidance and information provided by DTIC. (2) C3I related source databases were identified and investigated by the Joint Tactical Command, Control, and Communications Agency (JTC3A) database survey and are available for DOD research/planning on a restricted need-to-know basis. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | C3I, Database, DOD, Communications, Command, Dissemination and maintenance, Source, Defense | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
