Abstract/Summary:
Cybersecurity professionals use a wide range of control area indicators to assess relevant data and measure the state of network cybersecurity. However, no comprehensive list of baseline indicators has been adopted within the cybersecurity industry. The present case study asked 20 experienced and credentialed cybersecurity professionals for their opinions and feedback on effective indicators related to 29 individual control areas governing network cybersecurity. Participant responses indicated that cybersecurity is a comprehensive and dynamic discipline. The research demonstrated that cybersecurity indicators must be gathered from a wide range of control areas in order to portray holistic and accurate depictions of network cybersecurity. The indicators identified by the case study participants can be used to establish an initial baseline on which additional cybersecurity research can be developed. Continuing research can eventually lead to the cybersecurity industry's adoption of a comprehensive list of cybersecurity indicators, improving network cybersecurity on both an organizational and a global scale.
