With the rise of environmental problems, society has put forward higher requirements for improving energy efficiency, dispatching and using power more effectively, and using more renewable energy sources. The appropriate arrangement and strategic dispatch of energy in the power market will play a vital role in the development of Chinese future energy industry. The construction of China's power market is in its infancy, and the overall reform direction is toward a competitive power market. The research on the role and economic value of renewable energy, energy storage, and interconnections in the competitive power market provides support for the risk control and avoidance of local power market participants. The research also provides important theoretical basis for the formulation of market policies. The stable realization of the future clean power generation target has national strategic significance.Based on the operation mode of the competitive power market, the thesis makes predictions on the techno-economics,electricity price and CO2 emissions of the typical regional power market in 2030.The thesis also finds out the benefit of increasing renewable generations and consumptions,as well as the role of energy storage in the power market. The specific research object is the Inner Mongolia power market. The proportion of clean power generation in the power market is relatively high, and the capacity of existing wind turbines and planned renewable generator units has increased. So,it is more suitable for simulating the power market with high renewable energy penetration rate. This market is also a pilot in the Chinese power market reform, which can achieve the goal of establishing a compete power market by 2030.Therefore,the simulation of this power market provides important reference significance for the strategic layout and further simulation of the Chinese power energy market. Therefore, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region power market in China is selected as a typical regional competitive power market for simulation. The Inner Mongolia market model is built to study the economic value evaluation of energy storage technology, renewable power generation penetration rate and interconnection capacity in the power market.Based on the theory of power market economics and the requirements of grid capacity constraints, the modeling methods of joint simulation of day-ahead and intraday markets, and joint simulation of intra-provincial and inter-provincial markets are used to construct a competitive market model.Using different time granularities and time scales to simulate the market. The modeling results are closer to the actual market operation decision results.Use the method of joint simulation within the province and outside the province geographically, the interconnector operations are simulated. At the same time, the simulation of capacity outside the province is used to better assist the operation of the model in the competitive market and make the operation results within the province more accurate. The economical evaluation indicators of the competitive power market model are determined to include the annual wholesale system marginal price(SMP),total power generation cost, total power generation net revenue, and CO2 emissions.Economical evaluation indicators and model verification methods are used to verify the availability and accuracy of the competitive power market model. The study established three scenarios for the Inner Mongolia power market in 203 0,namely Renewable Energy Scenario,Energy Storage Scenario, and Interconnection Scenario, and contains a series of case studies respectively.Scenario establishment is based on existing policy forecasts and combined with scenario planning methods. The Renewable Energy Scenario assesses the technical, economic, and environmental impact of the overall power market when Inner Mongolia has different levels of renewable energy(RES-E)targets.The Energy Storage Scenario contains four case studies with different energy storage capacities to predict the appropriate energy storage capacity for the Inner Mongolia power market from an economic point of view. The Interconnection Scenario designs four cases with different interconnection capacities to determine the appropriate interconnection capacity value for the Inner Mongolia power market in 2030.The simulation results show that achieving the 2030 high renewable energy power generation target can reduce consumers' electricity bills and maximize total social benefits. It is determined that the total energy storage capacity of the Inner Mongolia power market in 2030 should be around 10800MW,which can make the power system have better technical, economic and environmental benefits, and thus achieve greater social benefits. With more interconnection capacities, beneficial effects appear on reducing electricity prices, total power generation costs, and CO2 emissions in the Inner Mongolia power market. From an economical and environmental point of view, the interconnection capacity of the Inner Mongolia power market will reach 63000MW by 2030.For the typical regional competitive power market,a sensitive analysis scenario is carried out to find out the influence of fuel price fluctuation factors, power unit retirements, energy storage cost factors, and energy storage policy factors on the modeling results.Use economical evaluation indicators to simulate under the sensitivity analysis scenario. The results illustrate that the simulation outcomes of the model are robust, and the modelling results are stable.
