Narrative voice is an important concept in Western literary theory and is an important object in Narratology. It has a directly influence on the meaning-generation and communication because of its' close link with many factors in narrative communication. However, for various reasons, the concept has not been accurately defined for a long time,so it is necessary to study the theory of narrative voice. This is the reason for writing this dissertation.Narrative voice is the metaphorical voice and it is the metaphor of signs of discourse for showing the writer's consciousness in narrative text. These signs of discourse reflect the relationship of the narrative subject and the narrative behavior. While what are conveyed by narrative voice and narrative content has a combined relationship. We can grasp it from different perspectives. It can be a metaphor for the meaning of a text of what has been accepted and understood by the reader,it can also refer to show the narrative discourses and symbols by the author's intention.Or it can be narrative strategies for setting the scene in a particular narrative.More often it is considered to be a show of the writer's consciousness. Thus, the first consideration about how to define the narrative voice is the question of angles. This dissertation comprehensively summarizes relevant research results on the basis of comprehensive, multiple exposition on the narrative voice in the narrative theory and western literary theory, and identifies and analyses the concept of narrative voice. In the narrative perspective, drawing on the research of other disciplines and methods, the dissertation analyzes narrative voice and the source in novels and describes the morphology, general characteristics and functions, thinking about narrative voice in other literary and non-literary and illustrates the significance and value of narrative voice in the text-construction,reader-acceptance and cultural exchange. This dissertation is divided into six chapters, including the concept of narrative voice, subject, components, features, and functionality and so on.The first chapter is about analysis of the concept of the narrative voice by discussing the "voice" concept in the western literary theories and relevant researches and retracing the origin and development of the narrative voice in terms. And analyze it on the basis of the ancient Chinese literary theories and practices of modern writers' works for the theoretical preparation of the next analysis to study narrative voice combined with specific text. The second chapter analyzes the sources for the narrative voice.First of all, based on the author, the dissertation analyzes the relationship between the literary creation and authors(implicated authors)and describes the internal relation between subject and narrative voice by means of social historical criticism and psychoanalysis.Secondly, from the angle of text transmission,it focuses on the changes of narrative voice in cultural communication and describes the different narrative voices by using the narrative theory and the mass communication theory according to the classification of narrator persons and narrative layers. At last, from the readers' view, the dissertation studies the relationship between the narrator and the narrative voice by using cognitive narratology, aesthetics and reader-response criticism theory. The third chapter discusses the composition and classification of the narrative voice.Narrative voice is the fusion of literary form, tone and value integration and is a component of narrative in the text. The narrative voices are composed by more complex elements.Narrative voice in written text is not going to make a real sound, but will show itself in the lines. The sign is related to the style, tone, and the author of values and other factors.Narrative voice has different manifestations in the specific text. This part is analyzed mainly by using Narratology and cultural Linguistics theories. The fourth chapter describes the sound characteristics. The narrative voices in different texts and different narrative layers in the same text have different performance and present a variety of characteristics. The described voice is a metaphor, but we can view it as the imitation and the beyond of the natural sound even it is dubbed such name because the thinking way of people is metaphor. Thus it has the features which is similar to the natural sound: fuzzy and clear(hermit and clear),and reliability and unreliability, and monotonicity and polyphony and echoed and resound. After all,the narrative voice is the person's voice which is associated with people,so it has some characteristics such as its uniqueness,self-presentation and correlation. The fifth chapter describes the sound function.Narrative voice has the functions, such as building text of the world, showing "the only poem" of the authors and the main value and reflecting the social conventions and cultural practices. Thus the narrative voice is of historical and aesthetic value. The sixth chapter is the research about the narrative voice in the narrative texts of the cross-media and interdisciplinary narrative. With the development of Narrative research from classic Narratology to postclassical Narratology,so the focus about the research on narrative voice must break through the boundaries of media and disciplines. Thus this part is about non-fiction narrative voices in the texts based on analysis on already studies about the narrative voice structure, classification, characteristics and functions, such as the We Chat narrative, educational narrative and legal narrative. These texts closely relate with life.To a great extent, they are the interventions of reality,so this study focuses on the semantics that conveyed by narrative voice and discusses the relationships between narrative voice and real-life.
