The Study Of Han Shih

"The Study of Han Shih(韩诗)" focuses on the Shih Ching(诗经)school created by Han Ying(韩婴).Han Shih was one of the official Shih Ching schools in Han Dynasty and had made a great influence according to Pan Ku(班固)’s Han Shu I Wen Chih(汉书·艺文志).However,all works from Han Shih have disappeared in Song Dynasty except Han Shih Wai Chuan(韩诗外传),which left many doubts to the later scholars.In the history of Confucian classics,Han Shih has ever been a thriving academic school and has participated in the traditional academic history,meanwhile,Han Shih school has also applied much important enlightenment to the later study of Shih Ching.So it is obvious that Han Shih school is worth studying via a specialized thesis.This thesis is just based on the above consideration.This thesis is made up of three main parts:1.Introduction,2.Text,3.Conclusion.The first part mainly introduces the former study of Han Shih and the innovation and purpose of this thesis.The third part is a summary based on the text.Between the first and the third part is the main body of this thesis,it is divided into 4 chapters,their outlines go as follows:Chapter One mainly studies all the academic works from Han Shih school and the former supplement.There have been 15 works in the Han Shih school and only Han Shih Wai Chuan has existed.So from the end of Southern Sung Dynasty,some scholars have begun the work of supplement and many collections have occurred.Meanwhile,there have been many editions of Han Shih Wai Chuan,which is also worth introducing.Chapter Two bases on the study of Chapter One and make 6 new collections of lost works of Han Shih school,including Han Shih Ching(韩诗经),Han Shih Nei Chuan(韩诗内传),Han Shih Wai Chuan,Han Shih Shuo(韩诗说),Han Shih I Yao(韩诗翼要)and Han Shih Chang Chu(韩诗章句).All the new collections main to offer a solid base to the later study.Chapter Three has two main points:the first one is the genre of works from Han Shih school,such as Han Shih Nei Chuan,Han Shih Wai Chuan,Han Shih Chang Chu;the second one is the literal and interpretting character of the above works.Chapter Four mainly studies the dissemination of Han Shih,which includes the scholars of Han Shih school,the new found Han Shih scholars and the collection and dissemination of Han Shih in Japan.All in all,the study of Han Shih is not only an essential part of the study of Shih Ching,but an important part of the study of Confucian classics.Although the historical materials are not adequate,it is still possible to reconstruct some original looks of Han Shih.
