A Study On The Historical Evolution Of Sufism In Morocco

Morocco Sufism is an indispensable part in the development history of Sufism.From its origin,the Moroccan Sufism combined the philosophical speculation of Eastern Sufism and the mysterious worship of the Maghreb to form a unique Sufism.In terms of its development,the Moroccan Sufism are not only the inheritors of the Maghreb culture,but also the developers.Sub Saharan Africa and the eastern part of the Islamic world are also affected by Morocco's Sufism to varying degrees.From the perspective of its social influence,modern Moroccan Sufism is not only a fortress against religious extremism,but also plays a certain role in maintaining social stability and foreign exchanges.The study of Sufism is not only conducive to the analysis of their development in Morocco,but also to the understanding of the religious policy of the contemporary Moroccan government,and can provide reference for other countries with similar national conditions.Focusing on the Moroccan Sufism,this paper comprehensively and deeply combs its development and evolution in Moroccan history.The 12 th to 14 th centuries were the embryonic period of Sufism in Morocco.Influenced by Sufism in the East and Iberian Peninsula,several famous Sufi masters appeared in Morocco at that time,as well as the influential Shadhiliyyah,which laid the foundation for the development of Sufism in Morocco.The 15th-18 th century was the mature period of Moroccan Sufism.During this period,the Sufism represented by the Jazuliyya combined the philosophical speculation,mystical tradition and political ideas in the Sufism thought,which laid the development direction of the Moroccan Sufism.The 19 th century to the 21 st century is the transitional period of Moroccan Sufism.When Morocco faced the invasion of western countries,the Sufism in the country began to transform.The Sufism represented by Kattaniyya the faced the crisis by actively participating in politics and implementing reform.Sufism represented by the Hamadsha chose to return to mystical worship to escape reality.Marginalized at the beginning of Morocco's independence,the Sufism regained their vitality after the 1990 s with their own reforms and the changes in religious policy.At present,Sufism have become one of the religious pillars in Morocco,providing strength for maintaining social stability and national development.In the process of development,Morocco Sufism also formed two characteristics.The first is the sense of political participation.Most of the traditional Sufism advocate abstinence and seclusion,and do not encourage their members to participate in politics.The political participation consciousness of The Morocco Sufism is inseparable from its own development.The establishment and development of the Sufi order needs the support of local residents and officials.If it advocates seclusion,the order will not develop further.Therefore,the Sufism need to actively participate in politics in the process of development in order to obtain asylum and support.The second is the sense of innovation.In the long course of history,the immutable things are easily abandoned by the Times.In the rapidly changing contemporary society,traditional religious ideas and ideas are often impacted.In order to adapt to the society,the Sufism in Morocco also actively seek change.It not only uses the Internet to spread its ideas,but also re-establishes its image by reforming traditional rituals and actively assumes social responsibilities.It is precisely these two characteristics make the Sufism in Morocco development for hundreds of years.In today's Morocco,the Sufism are trusted by the government and the public with their moderate religious views and more liberal ideas,which helps them develop further.
