The Dynamics Of Business Sustainability Of SMEs

The SME sector in developing countries is growing gradually,albeit at a slower rate than expected.In the past few decades,the sustainable progress and sustainability of SMEs has received evolving attention from policy makers,industrial organizations and academia.Innovation(especially technological innovation)is the key driver of the firms and their sustainability.This study may help to reduce SMEs failure it brings some positive social and economic change and this change may increase the SME's sustainability.Business sustainability increase the employment rate and revenue as well.To do this for Pakistan,the study aims to investigate how and why the company's determinants affect the business sustainability of small businesses in Pakistan is a very valuable topic.This research is theoretically conducive to promoting of technology opportunism,government regulations,complementary assets,organizational innovativeness and top management advocacy is ensuring positive role in the sustainable development of Pakistan's SME sector.In fact,the significance of the empirical research is that it can help the SME sector to understand and adapt technologies that can make an impact on business sustainability of SMEs.In this view,study has specifically four objectives that aided the achievement of the broader objective.The first objective of this research was to investigate the impact of technology opportunism on business sustainability.The second was to investigate technology opportunism as a mediator between complementary assets,organizational innovativeness and business sustainability.Third is to investigate same role of technology opportunism between top management advocacy and sustainability.Forth and the last aim of this study is to examine the relationships of organizational innovativeness,complementary assets,top management advocacy,technology opportunism,and regulations with business sustainability.Based on this,the study presents a theoretical framework and contributes to an enhanced understanding of SMEs' sustainability.As part of fact,role of the outcome of this study is that it revealed the impact of innovative technology based firm determinants on the sustainability of the firm.Moreover,ensuring innovation,the study proceeds from the previous studies that focused on corporate social responsibility or just financial aspects.The empirical findings of the study revealed technological innovations in the small businesses of Pakistan thus,resulting to increase environment,social and economic success collectively.The model of the study is based on well-known related theories,including resourcebased theory,contingency theory and Stevenson's conceptualization of entrepreneurial opportunities;empirically investigating how technological opportunism mediates between independent(organizational innovativeness,complementary assets and top management advocacy)and dependent variables(business sustainability)of the small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs)located in target areas of Pakistan.Guided by the company's resource-based theory and the contingency theory of the internal state of the enterprise,exploring innovative strategies to seek a better future for Pakistani companies.The study obtained research data through descriptive random survey design methods and questionnaires.Respondents' data came from small and medium-sized enterprises in Pakistan.Random sampling techniques were used to conduct this study.An empirical analysis was conducted using Smart PLS V-3.0 and the Social Science Statistics Package(SPSS-V23),which used 480 key information providers for SMEs in Pakistan.The main findings are as follows: The first result indicated that the technology opportunism has positive impact on business sustainability.In second,government regulations also have a positive influence on business sustainability and third shows that government regulations are also moderate between technology opportunism and business sustainability.Forth result of this study explore that complementary assets are significantly effects on technology opportunism and in fifth complementary assets significantly effect on business sustainability.Sixth finding indicates that organizational innovation has a positive impact on business sustainability.Seventh finding present the top management advocacy of new technology also relates positively with business sustainability and eighth finding reveal that top management advocacy positively relates with technology opportunism.Ninth,finding of the study shows that technology opportunism positively mediates between top management advocacy and business sustainability.In order to gain business sustainability,processes for all these features are prove important in SMEs competitive competencies.The findings suggest several practical implications for managers in the SME sector.In summary,the results show that innovative applications and regulations play an important role in exploring the sustainability of companies.These findings provide the existing literature with many contributions to technological opportunism,resource innovation and business sustainability.The study also revealed the important role of innovative technologies and literature in the sustainable development of SMEs.This study contributes among relationships of technological changes,diversifications,managerial advocacy of new technology and their effects with ecological elements or business sustainability(i.e.environmental,economic and social).The main contributions of this research are as follows:(1)Entrepreneurial technology opportunism and its impact on business sustainability with moderation of government regulations.(2)The technological factors and business sustainability of SMEs in an emerging economy.(3)The impact of top management advocacy on business sustainability: a mediating role of technological opportunism.Furthermore,the study offers the insights and implications for policy makers,regulators and academics that the technology opportunism is the most important factor for the business sustainability of SMEs.
