Since the 1980 s,with the development of the world economic globalization and regional economic integration, urban agglomeration has increasingly become a country's most dynamic region, playing an important role in the country and even the global economy. Therefore, problems related to urban agglomeration have attracted extensive attention from the academic circle. However,in China,a big country with unbalanced regional development, the situation is very complicated. The central urban agglomeration is located in the hinterland of China. It is rich in natural resources, has a large population,a long history and culture. In 2016,the population of the six major urban agglomerations in the central region reached 181 million, with a GDP of 9,915.346 billion yuan, accounting for 61.72% of the six provinces in the central region. The central urban agglomeration plays an important role in China's regional economic development pattern.Especially in 2004-2005,as the turning point, the spatial distribution of manufacturing industry changed inversely. The central region began to undertake the industrial transfer of the eastern region, and the urban agglomeration rose rapidly. In addition, for China, affected by administrative boundaries, the integrated development within the urban agglomeration lacks a good coordination mechanism and is difficult to develop interractively. All the cities in the central urban agglomeration are within the jurisdiction of a province and have the convenient conditions for integration,so their development is typical to a certain extent. The study of the central urban agglomeration can provide important ideas for the economic development of the central region and important experience for the urban agglomeration of inland and developing countries. This dissertation argues that urban agglomeration, being developed by it self under the market economy as micro-economic subjects as well as being organized by local governmental competitions, should be understood not only from the aspect of spatial structure of urban agglomeration economy, but also from the economic connection, especially from the angle of regional integration,to understand the urban agglomeration economy. Therefore, this dissertation mainly involves two main lines.First, the spatial structure of the central urban agglomeration.First of all, this dissertation reviews the literature related to the spatial structure of urban agglomerations and economic growth,so as to make theoretical and methodological preparation for the research of this dissertation.By means of literature review and summary, researching growth of urban agglomeration spatial structure and urban agglomeration relations, based on the influence mechanism of urban agglomeration spatial structure on economic growth in the study, the dissertation thinks that in the phase of development in the middle of the urban agglomeration, the center of the cluster and single space structure is conducive to urban agglomeration of economic growth, the effect of spatial structure of urban agglomeration is attributed to the effect of agglomeration income and agglomeration cost on factor flow, pointing the further research direction.Secondly, the spatial structure of urban agglomerations is quantified and compared, and the agglomeration of urban agglomerations and the degree of single central-multi-center are quantified from two dimensions: population and industry. After comparative analysis,it is found that the central urban agglomeration presents scattered features from the perspective of agglomeration and dispersion, and multi-center features from the point of view of single central-multi-center,and the ability of the first city to gather population and industry is poor and the city grade is low.In addition, the spatial structure of the central urban agglomerations is quite different, among which the industrial distribution of the Taiyuan urban agglomerations, the Poyang Lake urban agglomerations, and the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomerations are relatively concentrated, and the remaining three urban agglomerations are relatively scattered. Finally, the relationship between the spatial structure of urban agglomerations and economic growth is tested empirically, and the two indicators of agglomeration degree and single-center degree of urban agglomerations are selected as the proxy variables of urban agglomerations' spatial structures and put them into the growth model of urban agglomerations.Based on this,we conclude that the spatial structure of urban agglomeration and single center has positive significance for the economic growth of central urban agglomeration.Second, the economic connections between the central urban agglomerations.First of all, this dissertation summarizes the relevant literature on the relationship between the economic connections between urban agglomerations and the economic growth of urban agglomerations, and finds that the empirical research on the economic connections between cities in urban agglomerations is relatively weak, and the relationship between them and economic growth is rare.Based on this, this dissertation studies the influence mechanism of urban agglomeration economic connection on economic growth, which includes two aspects: one is shared infrastructure and the other is shared market, which lays the theoretical foundation for further research.Secondly, through the comparison and analysis of the previous research methods, the strength of the economic connections of the central urban agglomerations was measured by means of the gravitational model, and the characteristics of the economic connections of the central urban agglomerations were described and compared. The basic conclusion is that the layout of the cities in the central urban agglomerations is relatively compact and the economic connections are relatively close, which lays a good condition for the integrated development of the urban agglomerations. Finally, the relationship between the economic connection of urban agglomerations and their economic growth is tested by means of two indicators: the average connection strength of urban agglomerations and the global connection strength as proxy variables of urban agglomerations.Having concluded that close economic connections have a significant positive correlation with the economic growth of urban agglomerations, which is consistent with the emphasis placed on urban connectivity under the paradigm of network analysis and the existence of a view of network externalities in urban systems, this confirms that the benefits of agglomeration can be shared among multiple cities through close socio-economic linkages between cities.Based on the above analysis, this dissertation proposes to improve the agglomeration and radiation capacity of central cities in central China. We will establish a regional urban linkage mechanism for urban agglomerations and promote the coordinated development of regional cities.Accelerate the integration of the industrial market and build a manufacturing center in central China; We will optimize urbanization policies and promote the coordinated development of population and industry. The possible innovation of this dissertation lies in: First,The connotation of urban agglomeration research may be enriched,in the past, the researchers on urban agglomeration concentrated all their attention on the developed urban agglomeration. As a typical area of our country's,the central urban agglomeration's urbanization is a short of China's urbanization. This dissertation focus on the central urban agglomeration enrich the research of urban agglomeration and provide an idea to the similar area.Second,By comparison with the relationship ofspatial structure and economic connection between economic growth, research on evolution of spatial structure characteristics of urban agglomerations and economic connection among cities in the region is rich. This dissertation attempts toverify and validate the relationship of the three variable by the empirical analysis for the first time.Proxy variables used in this articlearezipf index andprimacy index and the gravity model. In conclusion,The positive externality of agglomeration still occupies a dominant position in the development process of the central urban agglomeration, and this positive externality can be shared through the close economic connections between cities of urban agglomeration.
