The construction industry is one of the pillar industries of China’s economic development.The sustainable development of the construction industry and the upgrading of construction enterprises need digital technology.BIM is the core technology to promote and support the digital transformation of construction enterprises,and the integrated application of multiple technologies to fully tap the potential of BIM has become the inevitable trend of BIM application in the future.Although the construction industry has promulgated a series of policies to guide and standardize the application of BIM,the BIM technology capability(BIMTC)of construction enterprises is still insufficient.In recent years,scholars have paid more attention to the research on BIMTC,but the existing research mainly focuses on the development of capability index.Few studies have explored the causes of the BIMTC,let alone analyzed the formation of BIMTC from the perspective of technology integration.Technology integration is a mature concept.As a kind of technology integration,the BIM technology integration(BIMTI)is one of the research hotspots.Thus,this paper aims to(a)identify the elements and the influencing factors of BIMTC of construction enterprises,(b)establish the relationship between the influencing factors and the elements of BIMTC,(c)reveal the formation mechanism of BIMTC,and(d)simulate the dynamic impact of influencing factors on the formation of BIMTC.Firstly,comprehensive use of systematic literature review,small sample survey,and exploratory factor analysis to identify and screen the elements BIMTC,and then divide the dimensions of BIMTC according to the framework of technology-organization-environment.Then,comprehensive use of case study,grounded theory,literature analysis,small sample survey,and exploratory factor analysis to complete the initial identification and screening of influencing factors.Thirdly,according to the enterprise capability theory and the logic of "motivation-behaviorresult",the formation mechanism model of BIMTC is constructed,and the research hypothesis of the formation path is put forward;Then the formal questionnaire survey is used to collect empirical data.Structural equation model,confirmatory factor analysis,and multiple regression analysis are used to verify the research hypothesis,and the numerical relationship between variables in the theoretical model is calculated based on path coefficient.Finally,based on the results of model checking and numerical relations,a system dynamics model is constructed to dynamically simulate the formation process of BIMTC and the change of BIMTC development trend and final results when the influencing factors of BIMTC change.The study found that:(1)BIMTC can be divided into three dimensions: technical basic capability,organizational adaptability and environmental construction capability;(2)The influencing factors of BIMTC include construction industry environment,BIM technology requirements,technology selection,technology reconstruction,and technology diffusion;(3)The formation path of three sub-capabilities of BIMTC is the same,that is,all three sub-capabilities are generated due to BIM technical requirements and match with BIM technical requirements.At the same time,BIM technology requirements can form three sub-capabilities by driving independent processes such as technology selection,technology reconstruction and technology diffusion,and can also form three subcapabilities by driving chain processes such as technology selectiontechnology reconstruction,technology reconstruction-technology diffusion and technology selection-technology reconstruction-technology diffusion.In addition,the construction industry environment will positively affect the driving effect of BIM technology requirements on technology selection and technology diffusion.(4)System dynamics simulation reveals that the construction industry should pay attention to creating a good industry environment,so as to induce BIMTI of construction enterprises and promote the formation of BIMTC;and a good industry environment promotes the formation of organizational adaptability slightly more than the other two subcapabilities;In the process of BIMTI,enterprises should take positive solutions and avoid negative solutions as much as possible;BIM technology requirement is one of the key pre variables that affect the formation and development of BIMTC of construction enterprises,and the impact of BIM technology requirement on technical basic capability and environmental construction capability is greater than that on organizational adaptability.The innovation of this paper lies in: putting forward the measurement method of BIMTI,that is,BIMTI can be decomposed into technology selection,technology reconstruction and technology diffusion,and designs the BIM technology integration measurement scale;revealing the formation path of BIMTC of construction enterprises;and constructing a model for simulating the formation of BIMTC of construction enterprises.The impact of the construction industry environment,BIMTI and BIM technology demand on the formation of BIMTC of construction enterprises is dynamically simulated.There are 29 figures,69 tables,and 319 references.
